London Buses route 288 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Arriva Shires & Essex.

History

This route began on 17 June 1972, as a circular route, running from Edgware Station and then back to Edgware Station, via Broadfields Estate (Monday to Saturday).

The Sunday service was introduced in 1975.

It was extended via the withdrawn section of route 107 from Edgware to Queensbury Station in 1993.

It was extended round a corner to Safeways (now Morrison's) in 1996.

Before it being operated by Arriva Shires & Essex, it was operated from Metroline from Edgware (EW), North Wembley (NW) and Cricklewood (W) garages, using single decks, it was converted to double deck in 1980 using Metrobuses, it was converted back to single deck operation in 1990 using midibuses and Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 were bought to convert the route into low-floor.

Arriva Shires & Essex gained the contract of the route on 2 September 2006, at their Garston garage (which is very far from the route), using brand new VDL SB120 / Wright Cadets.
