"Every Which Way but Loose" is a song made famous by the country music singer Eddie Rabbitt. The title song to the 1978 movie of the same name, it spent three weeks atop the "Billboard magazine" Hot Country Singles chart in February 1979.

Highest debut

Released just weeks before "Every Which Way But Loose" premiered nationwide, the title track immediately broke in popularity. In fact, the song debuted at No. 18 on the "Billboard" Hot Country Singles chart, the highest debut since the inception of the 100-position chart in July 1973; the previous record was held by Ronnie Milsap, whose "Only One Love in My Life" started at No. 32 in June 1978.

Rabbitt's chart-debut standard stood for more than 25 years, before Garth Brooks matched it with his No. 18 debut, "Good Ride Cowboy" in October 2005. The record was finally broken in September 2006 by Keith Urban's "Once in a Lifetime" (which started at No. 17), and again by Kenny Chesney in September 2007 with "Don't Blink", which debuted at No. 16. Brooks reclaimed the record in 2008 with "More Than a Memory", which debuted at #1 on the same chart a week after Chesney's debut.
