Mel Veale was the mayor of the Township of Strathroy-Caradoc, Ontario, the first mayor of the newly-amalgamated township in 1998.

He was re-elected for a third term on November 13, 2006, by a three-to-one margin over rookie candidate Brad Bock.[1] Veale had been a local politician for over 15 years in the Strathroy-Caradoc area and has suggested that he will retire after this term, however, he has admitted that he may change his mind.[1]

On September 3, 2010, Veale died of what is believed to be a heart attack.[2]
