articles=The Picco pipe is the smallest form of ducted flueTabor pipe or Flute-a-bec. The Largest is theFujara . It was popularized Feb 21st 1856 at Covenant Garden in London by a 25 year old blindSardinia n player. (Ref pg# 742 in Groves Musical Dictionary) also [http://encyclopedia.farlex.com/Picco+pipe (subscription access).]It has only three holes, 2 in front and 1 dorsal thumb hole with the same mouthpiece as a
recorder . It was 3 1/2" in length with the windway taking up 1 1/2". The fundamental scale is not normally used in tabor pipes. The bore end hole of the Picco Pipe had a small flare and the lowest notes were played with a finger blocking this end. The range was from b to c3 using the slight frequency shift between registers to sound a full chromatic scale, just like theTabor pipe .
