Lanthanum strontium manganite

Lanthanum strontium manganite

Lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM) is a perovskite crystal of Lanthanum manganite doped with Strontium oxide. It takes the generic formula La1-xSrxMnO3, with x usually in the range of 10-20%. [http://www.americanelements.com/lsm.html - cited 19/04/2008] This material is commonly used in as a cathode material in commercially produced solid oxide fuel cells, due to its ability to its electrical conductivity and well matched thermal expansion coefficient with YSZ.

It is black in color and has a density of approximately 6.6 grams/mL [ref?] . The actual density will vary depending on the processing method and actual stoichiometry.

LSM is primarily an electronic conductor, with transference number close to 1.
