It was established in January 1993, with the acquisition of GTE’s Sylvania lighting division by Osram GmbH.[1]
The company produces a wide range of lighting products for home, business and automotive use. It sells its North American products under the Sylvania brand name and uses the brand Osram in the rest of the world. The company is title sponsor of the Sylvania 300 NASCAR race, as well as the sponsor of It's a Small World at Disneyland and the long-running Disney's Electrical Parade at Disney's California Adventure and the IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot in the Walt Disney World Resort.

Osram Sylvania sales in North America totaled about €2 billion in fiscal year 2006, comprising 43% of Osram sales worldwide.[2] Osram Sylvania employs about 11,200 people and has 17 manufacturing plants, 1 equipment assembly operation and 11 research and development laboratories, along with a network of sales offices and distribution centers across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
The company’s business includes incandescent light bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps, light-emitting diode systems and other lighting products and services. Sylvania is among several established American brands that are licensed to global consumer electronics manufacturers.[3]
