Ismail Salami (Persian: اسماعیل سلامی) or Ali Salami (Persian: علی سلامی) born Tehran, 17 January, 1968 is an Iranian writer, journalist, critic, encyclopedist, lexicographer, translator and university instructor.

In 1996, he embarked on a translation of modern Persian poetry series into English. His primary concern was to introduce modern Persian literature to English-speaking readers. Four collections of modern poetry are the fruits of his endeavors; "With All My Tears" by Fereydun Moshiri, "Another Birth" by Forough Farrokhzad, "The Water’s Footfall" by Sohrab Sepehri and "Maybe It’s the Messiah" by Simin Behbahani. He made an exhaustive study of European novels and published the results of his study in a book entitled ‘"A Study of Thirty Great Novels"’. He served as the editor-in-chief of the international Tehran Times daily for a year. He also served as the website manager of Press TV English-language news channel from 2007 to 2008. As an expert on Iranian studies, he has written more than ten books. Salami has so far authored and translated dozens of works ranging from literature to philosophy. He is credited to be the first one who supervised and compiled A Companion to Persian Literature. Many of his articles have been translated into foreign languages including Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Spanish, German and Greek. He has been working on the largest English-Persian dictionary for ten years.

An English-Persian Shakespeare Glossary is his new book which will be published soon.

He has taught English literature at Azad University, Alzahra University and Teachers’ Training College.
