As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 171. It is part of the Ottawa–Streator Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is a part of the geographic region known as Streatorland.
Geography
Dana is located at 40°57′23″N 88°57′00″W / 40.95639°N 88.95°W (40.9564860, -88.9500470).[1]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), of which, 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. It was also the hometown of 1930's actress/model Ione Smith.
Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 171 people, 58 households, and 44 families residing in the village. The population density was 778.4 people per square mile (300.1/km²). There were 65 housing units at an average density of 295.9 per square mile (114.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.42% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 3.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 58 households out of which 48.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 19.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.36.
In the village the population was spread out with 35.1% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 15.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $35,625. Males had a median income of $37,708 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the village was $13,349. 26.7% of the population and 23.9% of families were below the poverty line. 28.6% of those under the age of 18 and 29.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
