The town of Baraki Barak is the center of Baraki Barak District in Lowgar Province, Afghanistan. It was also the former capital of Lowgar Province.The town is in a mountainous area in the valley of the Lowgar River.The main road Ghazni-Kabul passes about 20 km to the West of the town.

Ethnography

Tajiks--the Persian/Dari-speaking Sunni [Muslims] --make the majority of the town's population. There are siezable number of Sunni Pashtuns, as well Qizilbash--who like the Tajiks are the speakers of Persian/Dari but practice Imami Shiism.
