Goo Goo Cluster .The founding of the Standard Candy Company and his dreams
In 1901 he founded the Standard Candy Company in Nashville. Originally located on 1st Avenue in downtown Nashville, Mr. Campbell, a 19 year-old entrepreneur, had big dreams for his new candy company.
The creation of Goo Goo Cluster
His philosophy was simple: use only the finest, most wholesome ingredients combined with time, care and experience to make confections of outstanding richness and flavor. The business soon grew into a flourishing family enterprise that became known throughout the area for its delicious assortment of high-quality confections.
The first products sold by the company were hard candies and chocolates. Mr. Campbell's most well known candy, the Goo Goo Cluster, was a completely new and revolutionary candy invention.
In 1912, "America's 1st Combination Candy Bar" was developed. Howell Campbell was the very first confectioner to make a candy bar with multiple ingredients (i.e. with more than just solid milk chocolate).
He made Goo Goo Clusters by combining peanuts, caramel, marshmallow and milk chocolate together into a deliciously round cluster. Goo Goos were originally sold unwrapped in big glass candy jars. People loved the delicious new concoction and Goo Goo Clusters soon became the company's best selling product.
