August 15 ,1744 – 1797) served as a Captain in the Third Company Third Battalion, Washington County, Pennsylvania, Militia during theAmerican Revolutionary War .He was born in
Hunterdon County, New Jersey , the son of Hugh and Margaret Howell. Abner married Mary Gregg, daughter of aQuaker family from Kennett,Chester County, Pennsylvania . OnDecember 25 ,1769 , Mary was "disowned" by herQuaker meeting for marrying Abner Howell. Fact|date=February 2007Before the

July 15 1781 , Abner Howell was elected Justice of the Peace, Amwell Township,Washington County, Pennsylvania . OnAugust 7 1787 , his eldest daughter, Rhoda, married Job Howell, a war veteran from New Jersey.By 1792, Abner Howell and his family moved to
Mason County, Kentucky , where his farm became part ofBracken County, Kentucky (Braken County was organized in 1796 from parts of Mason and Campbell counties. He died in Bracken County in 1797).Posthumous
His wife and family then moved on to
