History
Old Ripley was once called New Berlin and was then called Ripley. Old Ripley was incorporated as a village in 1906.[1]
Geography
Old Ripley is located at 38°53′37″N 89°34′15″W / 38.89361°N 89.57083°W (38.893530, -89.570751).[2]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 127 people, 48 households, and 36 families residing in the village. The population density was 851.3 people per square mile (326.9/km²). There were 56 housing units at an average density of 375.4 per square mile (144.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.21% White and 0.79% African American.
There were 48 households out of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 18.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village the population was spread out with 31.5% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 117.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $35,417. Males had a median income of $27,083 versus $21,563 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,363. There were no families and 3.7% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and none of those over 64.
