It is found in Albania, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, the Republic of the Congo, Croatia, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Greece, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Liberia, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Portugal, Sao Tomé and Principe, Senegal, Serbia and Montenegro, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Togo, the United Kingdom, and Western Sahara. Its natural habitat is open seas. It is threatened by habitat loss.
