Fran Amos

Fran Amos (born January 12th, 1939) is the Republican State Representative in the Michigan State House of Representatives, representing the 43rd District which covers Lake Angelus, Waterford and part of West Bloomfield in Oakland County. She is known for proposing Halloween legislation requiring sexual offenders to keep lights out in their home and to not participate in any practices related to the unofficial but popular holiday. There are no documented instances of law enforcement activity in the state of Michigan linked to Halloween and sexual offenders.

Amos has represented the 43rd District since 2002. Prior to her service in the State House, she was an Oakland County Commissioner for four terms. During her service for Oakland County, she was widely credited with the privatization of mental health services. Despite bipartisan efforts to thwart her, Amos successfully purged hundreds of unionized career mental health professionals from the county payroll. She was subsequently recognized as a distinguished alumnus at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. With the 2008 primary season Amos was defeated, as she sought to unseat an incumbent Oakland County Commissioner. This was the very same office that she had held in power and controversy, before her foray in the Michigan State Legislature.
