- Shanklin Family
The Shanklin Family (1767-1954) were wealthy plantation owners in
Todd County, Kentucky , in the United States, from 1791 to 1954. John A. Shanklin came to America fromEngland in 1775 seeking land to operate a farm. He settled nearFairview, Kentucky where the family continued to thrive through the 18th and 19th centuries. William Shanklin, was elected in 1937 to Kentucky legislation and served one term in office, not seeking re-election. William Shanklin returned to Todd County where he amassed several thousand acres. William and his brother John E. Shanklin partnered in the buying, selling, and trading of land. The Shanklin family amassed a great amount of land in the southern Todd County portion of Kentucky of around convert|6000|acre|km2 during the height of their farming operations. The Plantation was lost in the 1940s when farming operations ceased due to lack of interest. The remainder of the Shanklin family plantation still exist inElkton, Kentucky to the amount of convert|1200|acre|km2. The Shanklin house is aFederal style brick home that exist at the end of a tree-linedalley ' two miles (3 km) south of Elkton.Note
