Its feeder schools are Mt. Bethel, Sope Creek, Timber Ridge, and East Side Elementary Schools. The principal is Mrs Carole Brink who replaced Dr Daniels in September 2007.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,410 students and 89.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 15.8.[1]

Awards and recognition
The Georgia General Assembly passed a resolution in 2006 "Recognizing and commending Dickerson Middle School for outstanding contributions to education in the State of Georgia and excellence in student academic achievement; and for other purposes.".[2]
During the 2007-2008 school year, Dickerson Middle School was recognized with the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education[3][4] the highest award an American school can receive.[5][6]
In 1998 this was rated the top middle school in Cobb County by the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.[7]
Music
Dickerson has a respected music program headed by John Palmer and assisted by Scott Brown (also the percussion director) including Mrs Paige Dobbins as the chorus director and Ms Irene Smith as her assistant, along with Mr Sievers who is the orchestra conductor.
Achievements
- The Dickerson 8th grade chorus has performed at Disney's Magic Music Days, every year since 1997.
- The Dickerson percussion ensemble performed at PASIC in Austin, Texas, 2006.
- The Dickerson orchestra won the rate of Superior in both fields of the GMEA concert at Walker high school in 2007.
- The Dickerson 7th and 8th grade percussion played at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago in December 2008.
- The Dickerson 8th grade symphonic band and percussion ensemble performed at the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis in March 2010.
- The Dickerson 8th grade symphonic band and the 7th-8th grade concert band both earned the highest possible score in all categories in the Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in 2010.
- The Dickerson 8th and 7th grade percussion ensemble played at the East Cobber Parade 2010
- The Dickerson percussion ensemble played at the Hawks vs. Heat game at Philips Arena 2011
- The Dickerson 8th grade symphonic band along with the concert band, and both 7th grade bands received straight Superior ratings at the LGPE in 2011.
Notable faculty
Carole Jean Kell was selected as the 2006 East Cobb Citizen of the Year. During her tenure as principal at Dickerson, the school was selected as the top Georgia Middle School and as a Georgia School of Excellence.[8]
