Horatio Pettus Mackintosh Berney-Ficklin (born 1892; died 1961) was an officer in the
British Army before and duringWorld War II .As part of the
British Expeditionary Force , Brigadier Berney-Ficklin commanded the 15th Brigade of the British 5th Infantry Division during theBattle of France .From 1940, Major-General Berney-Ficklin commanded the British 5th Infantry Division. As part of the British 10th Army, his division was stationed in
Persia in 1942. At that time, the British 10th Army was part Paiforce (formerlyIraqforce ) under the Persia and Iraq Command.Two brigades of the British 5th Infantry Division went to
Madagascar to take part in Operation Ironclad (theBattle of Madagascar ). Both brigades were pulled out ofMadagascar during the late summer of 1942 for re-fitting inIndia . After India, Berney-Ficklin went with the British 5th Infantry Division when it was transferred to the British 8th Army. Under the 8th Army, the division took part in operations during the invasion ofSicily and the invasion of southernItaly .Berney-Ficklin ended the war commanding two diviosions of the
