NJROTC
One of the clubs or commonly known as classes, on the Reedley High Campus that adds lots of potential, success and leadership ability is the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), which is located within Area 11 just one out of few other ROTC programs, this class is conducted by Retired Naval personnel, a Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) and Naval Science Instructor (NSI), which is determined by the rank given within their time served in the navy. During the years of 2001 to 2006 Master Chief James Okray (SNSI) and Chief Petty Officer Joseph Arruda (NSI) were the two teachers upholding the classes to their fullest potential along the sides of the students, the fourth years which normally consist of ranking officers teaching the third second and first years how to gain leadership ability and military knowledge. In 2006 Master Chief Okray moved on to bigger and better things leaving RHS with a new SNSI in the class, Reedley High gained Lt. Commander David J.Brunkhorst who served 25 years in the Navy and retired in 2006 to teach at Reedley High school along the side of Chief Petty Officer Joseph Arruda. In the year 2006/2007 the Unit won an Outstanding Achievement for Area 11. In 2007 Lt. Commander David J Brunkhorst left the school as did fellow Chief Petty Officer Joseph Arruda, leaving the Reedley High NJROTC program to settle with two more teachers, little did this unit know Master Chief James Okray (NSI) came back to teach, the unit also gained Warrant Officer Daryl Stocking (SNSI) from the Parlier ROTC program, this year 2007/2008 The program has proven to have one of best shooting teams in the West.2008 will be Warrant Officer Daryl Stockings last year as the SNSI here at Reedley High, because he filed a grievance against the district concerning pay and the Superintendent of Personnel didn't renew his contact. RHS will be gaining yet another SNSI in the last three years.
Music
The music program has been very successful as well. The majority of the students haven't taken any type of private lessons. The marching band competes in many festivals and always seem to be the favorite or most talked about. In 2000, the marching band consisted of 400 members and were personally invited to participate in the 2000
Tournament of Roses Parade . Since then, the band has booked many invites, but were forced to turn some of them down due to lack of funds. The marching band turned away events such as the Presidential Inaugural Parade, Sydney Australia Symphony, etc. Although the band has had to turn away many offers, they have had many great exposure to Northern and Southern California. RHS Marching Band participated in theHollywood Christmas Parade , the DisneyLand Christmas Parade, theSan Jose Holiday Parade , the 49ers Pre-game show, the Hawaiian Punch Bowl, and many other famous events. After marching season, the music students are divided into 4 music programs by audition. The 4 directors hold auditions and decide whether that student should go to the lowest being Scale Jail aka Intermediate, a specialty class called Drum Class, or the second highest Concert Band, and the highest being Symphonic Band. Many first chair musicians have the option to play with the Symphonic Orchestra also. RHS also has an award winning vocal program with students auditioning to be placed into the 4 singing groups, the highest being Madrigals which consists of only 8-10 singers. The RHS Madrigals traveled toNew York City to compete in a music festival and received many 1st place awards.Clubs & Activities
