2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification

The 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification will see various countries take part to determine another 12 spots to the final tournament in Qatar base on the new qualification system set by Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Five teams will not take part because they have automatically qualified for 2011 tournament as host and top three finishers in the 2007 tournament, they are: Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Korea Republic. India won the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup and have also secured qualification.

Also, the winner of the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup will go through automatically and additionally, if the winner of AFC Challenge Cup 2010 is identical to the 2008 tournament, the runner-up will receive an automatic berth for 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

The first round of qualifying matches will put teams ranked 23-24 into pairs for a home and away qualifier.

The winner will advance to round two, where they will be joined by the 19 teams seeded 4-22 and split into five groups of four.

The top two in each group will go through to the 2011 tournament where they will join the automatic qualifiers -- Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and India.

First round

In the first round of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification, the two lowest ranked AFC teams, Lebanon and Maldives, played home-and-away matches on April 9 and April 23, 2008.

Lebanon advanced to the second round winning both games with an aggregate score of 6–1 and advanced to the second round, where they will join the 19 teams seeded 4-22.
