It is a affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation. It has never qualified for the World Cup finals. The closest they have come was the qualifying for the 2006 tournament, where a win against Vietnam in their last group match would have seen them progress to the group stage ahead of the much favoured Korea Republic.

Lebanon also hosted the 2000 AFC Asian Cup, but didn't made it past the group stages as the team lost 4-0 to Iran and tied Iraq (2-2) and Thailand (1-1).
