It has traditionally been placed in Cotingidae or Tyrannidae, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae [ [http://www.museum.lsu.edu/~Remsen/SACCprop313.html Adopt the Family Tityridae] - South American Classification Committee (2007)] , where now placed by SACC.It is found in Ecuador and Peru.Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests.It is threatened by habitat loss.
