census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County,Florida ,United States . Wesley Chapel is considered part of the Tampa Bay metro area. The population was 5,691 at the 2000 census. In2003 , some residents of Wesley Chapel started a movement to incorporate the community (including areas not in the official CDP). This "city," which would have been the largest and most populous in Pasco County, had much opposition from some wealthy, prominent residents, and never materialized.Geography

United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 6.1square mile s (15.7km² ), of which, 6.1 square miles (15.7 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.49%) is water.Residents choose the area because of its proximity

As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 5,691 people, 2,021 households, and 1,695 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 939.5 people per square mile (362.6/km²). There were 2,072 housing units at an average density of 342.1/sq mi (132.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.06% White, 7.17% African American, 0.21% Native American, 5.22% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 2.51% from other races, and 2.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.86% of the population.There were 2,021 households out of which 45.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.0% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.1% were non-families. 11.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 41.0% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $65,293, and the median income for a family was $66,978. Males had a median income of $47,240 versus $32,664 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $25,897. About 0.9% of families and 1.9% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 2.3% of those under age 18 and 1.2% of those age 65 or over.Growth
Since 2000, Wesley Chapel has grown rapidly. Newcomers from in and out of state have populated new luxury communities such as Seven Oaks, Meadow Pointe, Chapel Pines, Bridgewater, Northwood,
Saddlebrook and Lexington Oaks. Several townhome developments have been built, Saddle Creek and Santa Fe. A new retirement community is planned byDel Webb . The area has two middle schools and two high schools, half of which are brand new. Three new malls are planned:Cypress Creek Town Center , TheShops at Wiregrass and an outlet mall called The Grove on the northern perimeter. Two brand new schools are done being built,Dr. John Long Middle School andWiregrass Ranch High School (which was built to relieve overcrowding atWesley Chapel High School ). The newest of the two high Schools and middle schools is located in a community called Meadow Pointe. According to a 2006 estimate, the town has a population of 45,000 residents which is a 630.9% increase from 5,691 residents in the 2000 census. Wesley Chapel has been a major catalyst in the rapid growth ofPasco County , 38th fastest growing county in the nation.
