Bloomingdale is an unincorporated census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 19,839 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Bloomingdale is located at coor dms|27|52|55|N|82|15|36|W|city (27.881904, -82.259919)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 7.9 square miles (20.4 km²), of which, 7.8 square miles (20.3 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.76%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 19,839 people, 6,547 households, and 5,623 families residing in the community. The population density was 2,534.0 people per square mile (978.3/km²). There were 6,846 housing units at an average density of 874.4/sq mi (337.6/km²). The racial makeup of the community was 88.12% White, 6.38% African American, 0.26% Native American, 2.24% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 1.80% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.93% of the population.

There were 6,547 households out of which 48.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.1% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.1% were non-families. 10.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.03 and the average family size was 3.26.

In the community the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.

The median income for a household in the community was $68,911, and the median income for a family was $72,282. Males had a median income of $50,217 versus $31,727 for females. The per capita income for the community was $26,552. About 2.1% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.0% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.
