- Streptogramin
Streptogramins are a class of antibiotics. They are a combination of Quinupristin and dalfopristin in a 30:70 ratio. Streptogramins are bactericidal. This class of antibiotics inhibit protein synthesis in a synergestic manner. Quinupristin binds to the 50s ribosomal subunit and prevents elongation of the polypeptide. Dalfopristin binds to a nearby site, changes the conformation of the 50s ribosomal subunit, enhancing the binding of Quinupristin.
Streptogramins are effective in the treatment of Vancomycin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA)and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE), two of the most rapidly growing strains of deadly bacteria.
