Kentucky Department of Criminal Investigation

The Kentucky Department of Criminal Investigation is an investigative law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The department was founded in September 2004 by former Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo as the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and operates under the authority of the Office of the Attorney General. The KBI was reorganized into the Department of Criminal Investigation by Stumbo's successor Jack Conway.

Branches

* Public Corruption and Special Investigations Branch
* Medical Assistance Provider Fraud Branch
* Welfare Recipient Fraud Investigations Branch
* Drug Investigations Branch
* Cyber Crimes/Identity Theft Branch

Criminal investigations in areas other than those listed above are not investigated by the DCI. They are investigated by either the Kentucky State Police or by local law enforcement.
