Jack Conway (born 1969) is Kentucky's 49th Attorney General, having been elected on
November 6 ,2007 . He and his wife Elizabeth live in Louisville.He is a graduate of
Duke University andGeorge Washington University Law School.Jack Conway served important roles as a key advisor in the administration of
Governor of Kentucky Paul E. Patton .In 2002, Conway was the Democratic nominee for
Kentucky 's Third Congressional District seat in theUnited States House of Representatives . Conway lost a close race to the incumbent,Anne Northup . Conway won 110,846 votes (48.4%) to Northup's 118,228 (51.6%). Conway's showing was the best in the district since Northup won the seat in 1996 and compared favorably to the 44.2% won by the prior Democratic nominee, state representativeEleanor Jordan , and the 37.8% won by the following Democratic nominee, Jefferson Circuit Clerk Tony Miller.In 2005, the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) actively recruited Conway to run a rematch with Northup. In November 2005, Conway announced that he would not seek the seat again in 2006, but worked vigorously to help elect his friendJohn Yarmuth who went on to defeat Northup.In 2006, Conway began facing off with conservative Jim Milliman on WAVE-3 TV's "Hot Button" debate show. The show was a debate format pitting a more liberal person against a more conservative person to discuss political topics. Conway also provided election night commentary for WAVE-3 in November 2006.
When Conway announced that he would not run again for Congress in 2006, the Louisville "Courier-Journal" reported that Conway was interested in running for
Governor of Kentucky ,Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky orAttorney General of Kentucky . ALouisville Eccentric Observer op-ed in early 2006 encouraged Conway to run for Governor in 2007 and touted him as an excellent candidate. Conway went on to defeat Republican nominee Stan Lee by a wide margin in the November 6, 2007 general election. Out of just over one million votes cast, Conway won 612,689 votes (60.5%) to Lee's 399,603 (39.5%). [http://www.kentucky.com/635/story/223329.html]
Conway is the second youngest Attorney General ever elected in Kentucky and one of the youngest Attorneys General in the United States.
