United States Census Bureau , the City has a total area of 20.3km² (7.8 mi²). 19.1 km² (7.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it (5.86%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,110 people, 439 households, and 303 families residing in New Preston. Thepopulation density was 58.0/km² (150.1/mi²). There were 563 housing units at an average density of 29.4/km² (76.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.84% White, 0.36% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.27% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.17% of the population.There were 439 households out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the CDP, the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,962, and the median income for a family was $69,000. Males had a median income of $45,673 versus $28,333 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $36,566. About 3.4% of families and 3.9% of the population were below thepoverty line , including none of those under age 18 and 19.9% of those age 65 or over.
