Arizona Federal Credit Union (or Arizona Federal) is a federally insured $1.9 billion, 230,000 member natural person credit union headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, chartered and regulated under the authority of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). As of June 2008 there are 29 branch locations in the Phoenix area and two locations in Tucson.

History

Arizona Federal was established in 1936 as the Phoenix City Employees Federal Credit Union and grew significantly since the 1980s as a result of mergers and acquisitions.

Veteran actor Leslie Nielsen, a Phoenix-area resident, starred in a series of locally broadcast television commercials for Arizona Federal beginning in 2004.

YMCA Partnership

In 2007, Arizona Federal entered into an exclusive agreement with the Valley of the Sun YMCA to provide financial education classes (financial fitness) at local Valley YMCAs. Additionally, in January 2008, Arizona Federal opened their first "in-gym" branch inside the newly-constructed Maryvale Family YMCA (Mike & Cindy Watts Branch) in west Phoenix, AZ. The location is a first-of-its kind in the nation, and has increased the percentage of Maryvale YMCA members who are "banked" (those who have a bank account).

Community Services

Under the leadership of Laura Edgar and Tricia Drexel, Arizona Federal is active in area philanthropy and financial education activities through its Community Services department.

Bob Bresnahan Memorial Scholarship

Named for a former Board of Directors member, the Bob Bresnahan scholarship program awards three $1,000 scholarships to different members annually. The award is split with $500 being awarded before the fall semester and $500 the following spring semester presuming the student achieves a 2.5 or better GPA.
