"Mr. Blue" is a popular song written by and first recorded by DeWayne Blackwell in 1959. It became a hit for The Fleetwoods, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1959[1] and giving the group its second chart-topping hit of the year.

Cover versions

  • The song was covered in 1959 by David Macbeth, whose version reached #18 on the UK Singles Chart, spending one week in the Top 20.[2]
  • Also in 1959, the song was covered by former boxer and future actor Mike Preston who peaked at #12 and spent five weeks in the Top 20 with the song.
  • In 1969, this song was covered by Classics IV in their LP album, Traces (Imperial 12429).
  • Country singer Garth Brooks covered the song for his 1990 album, No Fences.
