The Bear River Mountains are a branch of the Wasatch Range located in northeastern Utah and southeastern Idaho. It is a popular area for both winter and summer activities, especially camping, hiking, rock-climbing, snowmobiling, and skiing. Popular areas include the Beaver Mountain ski resort, the Tony Grove camping area, and numerous caves. The Sinks are popular for snowmobiling. One of the sinks, known as Peter's Sink, recorded the lowest temperature in Utah on February 1, 1985, at -69°F (-56°C), which is also the second-lowest temperature ever recorded in the Lower 48. Logan Canyon is the only major route through the mountains, which is accessed by U.S. Highway 89. The highest point in the Bear River Mountains is Naomi Peak, at an elevation of convert|9980|ft|m|0, located in the Utah portion in Cache County.
