It is where the Lydney to Parkend (High Level) and Lydney to Norchard (Low Level) lines meet.
Middle Forge is one of three Forges in the forest. There is one near Tufts Junction and another past Lydney Junction. Middle Forge is 450 yards (410 m) away from Norchard. The first train of the day (on 1 train only operating days) to Parkend, stops here, changes the points for High Level and heads in the direction it just came from, but on the high level line to High level instead of the low level platform. The last train back to Norchard stops and sets the points for Low Level.
