St. Donato Roman Catholic Church, founded in 1910, is a Catholic church in Overbrook, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The parish is still a Personal (Italian) Parish within the archdiocese and the parish school and Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart convent were established by Mother Cabrini while she was based in Philadelphia.
History
St. Donato drew its name because the many Italians who moved into the Overbrook-Haddington area came from the same town, St. Donato, in Italy. The parish celebrates the feast of St. Donato and of St. Frances X. Cabrini on the first Sunday of June. The celebration opens the annual carnival and he feast of Mother Cabrini was added to the celebration of St. Donato because she personally established our school and worshipped in our lower Church, and her Sisters are still here.
