island in southernChile , part of theTierra del Fuego archipelago and ofPunta Arenas municipality, lying south west of theBrunswick Peninsula , from which is separated by theStrait of Magellan and minor islands. It has an area of 3 688 km², making it the largest island of Punta Arenas municipality and the third largest of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, after Isla Grande andHoste Island . Its shoreline in this area is part of theFrancisco Coloane Coastal and Marine Protected Area . The rest of the island is a part of theAlacalufes National Reserve , equalling thatDesolación Island and the "Córdova Peninsula". This latter is located in front of the island on the another side of the Strait of Magellan and is a peninsula ofRiesco Island . The island belongs to theTierra del Fuego archipelago. The highest point of the island is at 1341 meters.The island hosts a small ice field named
Grandes Ventisqueros .
