When it first went on air, WCHV was one of very few
AM stereo stations in the nation. The station spent many years as an oldies station, until it was recast as a talk station in 1994. For several years it was largely automated, rebrodcasting feeds of national talk shows, largely non-political ones. In 1997 it became an urban contemporary station, anchored byThe Tom Joyner Morning Show .ale
