Biography

She is the daughter of Jennifer Elbert and pianist Roland Elbert, and spent her childhood in Dallas and the Dallas suburb of Coppell, Texas. The music played in her family quickly instilled in her a fascination with the musical world. Emily spent her childhood listening to music such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, James Taylor, and oldies radio, which she says had a significant impact on her musical development.

A third-generation professional musician, Elbert began studying piano at an early age. But it wasn't until she was 15 that she picked up a guitar and began to sing. Her love for the instruments led her to the Berklee College of Music 5-Week Performance Program, vocal jazz workshops at the University of North Texas, and choirs at Coppell High School. During high school, Elbert was selected as one of four female vocalists in the [http://www.grammyintheschools.com/ 2007 Gibson-Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble] which performed at the Grammy events in Los Angeles. She was named Grand Prize Winner in the 2007 Texas Music Project’s "Texas 10 Under 20" Contest, a winner of a four-year scholarship to Berklee College of Music, winner of Berklee's Performing Songwriter Contest, and winner of the Youth Talent Competition in the 2007 Old Settlers Music Festival. She was a finalist in the Dallas Songwriters Association Awards, a Runner-Up for Relix Magazine’s 2006 JAM OFF!, and the musical guest on several episodes of “Good Morning Texas.” [ [http://www.guidelive.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-elbert_1104gl.State.Edition1.2868903.html GuideLive.com | Arts/Entertainment News and Events | Dallas-Fort Worth | The Dallas Morning News | Arts & Entertainment ] ] Emily was also a featured performer at the 2008 International Folk Music Festival in Memphis, Tennesse, and Texas Instruments licensed videos of two of Emily’s songs to demonstrate their new video cell phones throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.
