San Geronimo is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the San Geronimo Valley in Marin County, California in the United States. The population was 436 at the 2000 census.

Geography

San Geronimo is located at coor dms|38|0|44|N|122|39|58|W|city (38.012322, -122.666094)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 436 people, 174 households, and 120 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 287.4 people per square mile (110.8/km²). There were 176 housing units at an average density of 116.0/sq mi (44.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.12% White, 0.92% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.46% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 3.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.52% of the population.

There were 174 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% were married couples living together, 14.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.70.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 17.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 39.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $58,542, and the median income for a family was $60,875. Males had a median income of $70,536 versus $32,292 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $31,960. About 9.9% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.4% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

Things to do

You can stay at the only lodging, the Valley Inn, and dine at the Two Bird Cafe. There is also a library, a community center, and a post office. The community center sometimes holds outdoor movie nights. The San Geronimo Golf Course is one of the best golf courses around and is the most important part of San Geronimo. You can also eat at the restaurant at the San Geronimo Golf Course.

Red House Painters

The 90's band lead by Mark Kozelek wrote a song named 'San Geronimo' which was featured on their album Ocean Beach.
