Gaba is unique in the eikaiwa industry in that teachers are not classified as employees but as sub-contractors, or "itaku". This means that teachers do not receive the benefits afforded most language teachers in Japan - paid annual leave, transportation costs, and unemployment insurance.Fact|date=August 2008

On July 13, 2005, Gaba opened up a 'next generation' learning studio designed for women in Ginza. The new location provided VIP "executive booths" that afforded complete privacy for the teacher and the student. cite web

In 2007, Gaba indicated it would miss projected earnings after new enrollments fell short of expectations by about 20%. The shortfall was attributed to an overall deterioration of the eikaiwa industry that stemmed from bad publicity surrounding government restrictions placed on Nova.cite web
