Corporates and Businesses of Vietnam Index (in short CBV-Index) is a Vietnamese equity market index created by BienViet Securities J.S.C., and first published on January 1, 2007.
Selection
The CBV-Index contains the stock of the 50 largest public companies of Vietnam, with largest total market capitalization and liquidity, listed in either Hanoi or Hochiminh City Securities Trading Centers.
Criteria of a corporation to be listed in CBV Index:
- Corporations of Vietnam are listed in either Hanoi or Hochiminh City Securities Trading Centers.
- Total market capitalization is greater than 500,000,000,000₫ (Vietnamese đồng).
- In four consecutive quarters, net profit after tax must be greater than 0, and debt ratio is relatively low/safe compared with other companies in the same industry.
- Market liquidity: total value of trading shares in the current year must be greater than 50% total market capitalization.
- Corporation must be a leading one in her industry based on her market share and market capitalization.
- Corporation must be an operating company; a holding company will not be listed in the CBV-Index.
Calculation
Like the S&P 500, the CBV-Index is float weighted, that is, only shares which is available for public trading ("float") are counted. The index is calculated in real time.
