Notes

*Presenter Thandie Newton, who was stuck onstage when the link to Al Gore wasn't up yet as Gore wasn't ready, made a gaffe "saying that you've been to Live Earth is as sexy as saying you're 'hung like a warlord'". She also recited a 'knock-knock' joke to the crowd.
*Chris Rock's explicit language during the (pre-watershed) introduction of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers has already caused problems with Canadian TV networks and the BBC. Rock also used the word "Nigger" while being interviewed on BBC One by Jonathan Ross, alongside Ricky Gervais. Rock called the crowd "motherfuckers" and an angry Jonathan Ross stated that he heard what Rock said and apologize to the viewers. He was unrepentant in later NME interviews [http://www.nme.com/news/live-earth/29530]
*It appeared that the Red Hot Chili Peppers experienced sound problems, as did Razorlight and Duran Duran.
*The BBC interrupted the Bloc Party performance to show the Linkin Park performance of "What I've Done" from Tokyo.
*The BBC displayed the incorrect song title for John
Pulp).
*The BBC missed the start of the Metallica set joining live halfway through the first song - then switched to Crowded House from Sydney just as they started to play Enter Sandman. This resulted in 413 complaints from Metallica fans who watched the concert from home. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6283632.stm]
*While playing "Big Bottom," Spinal Tap were joined on stage by various bass players from bands that performed during the day, including Madonna's backing band, Metallica guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, and Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. Spinal Tap referred to the bassists as being "every bass player in the known universe". The BBC did not show this part of the set live but later broadcast it as a 'highlight' from earlier in the day.
*At the culmination of Terence Stamp's speech, Wembley Stadium was plunged into darkness as a symbolic gesture to encourage everyone viewing to save energy.
*Madonna said "Come on motherfuckers, make some noise" during her introduction to "Ray of Light", as she did in most performances of the song during the Confessions Tour. She also brought on Gogol Bordello in the middle of her performance.
*Phil Collins changed the lyrics of "Invisible Touch" from "And though she will mess up your life, you'll want her just the same" to "And though she will fuck up your life, you'll want her just the same." Collins also did this on the Genesis live recording of "Invisible Touch" for "The Way We Walk Volume 1" album. He has also been known to sing this replaced lyric in many of Genesis' concerts, not just that of the recording.
*During the Black Eyed Peas set, will.i.am's microphone wasn't being broadcast to the televisions
*Corinne Bailey-Rae performed the Marvin Gaye classic Mercy Mercy Me during her set at the Wembley Stadium. Hours later, Alicia Keys performed the same song during her set at Giants Stadium.
*Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel jokingly shouted "Hello Wimbledon!" into the mic, after which David St Hubbins told him that they are in Wembley Stadium.
