Major General (National Service (NS)) Ng Chee Khern 黄志勤 is currently the Director of Singapore's Security and Intelligence Division.[1] He was formerly the Chief of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
Prior to his appointment as RSAF Chief, Ng served as second-in-command as Chief of Staff (Air Staff). He took over the role RSAF Chief of the from Lim Kim Choon, who retired in March 2006 after serving in the position for five years.
Ng joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1984, and was a recipient of the President's Scholarship in 1984 and the SAF (Overseas) Scholarship in 1985.[2]
Ng was a student of Victoria School and Hwa Chong Junior College. He holds a Master of Arts degree in degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University.[3][dead link] He was one of the RSAF's first F-16 pilots, and most recently flew the Northrop F-5E Tiger-II.[4]
Among his other appointments in the SAF, Ng had been the Commanding Officer of the RSAF's 149 Squadron, the Commander of Tengah Air Base, and the Director of the Joint Operations and Planning Directorate (JOPD).[5][dead link]
Personal Life and Family
Ng and his two brothers occupy top posts in the Singapore government and military. His younger brother, Ng Chee Meng, succeeded him as Chief of the RSAF. His other brother, Ng Chee Peng, recently was appointed as chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy.[6][7][8]
