Lokmanya Tilak College of Engineering also known as LTCOE or [LT] , established in 1994, is one of the premier engineering colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai. The college is approved by AICTE,New Delhi and is recognized by the government of Maharashtra.Over the years the college has gained recognition in the engineering fields by producing merit rankers each year.

History

The college was started in the year 1994. The College is named after the Indian freedom fighterand social reformer, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who was reverently addressed as Lokmanya (meaning "Beloved of the people" or "Revered by the world") Tilak. The college is currently in the process of increasing its overall capacity by building an additional building adjacent to it's main campus in the same block.

Campus

The institute consists of two buildings,'Old' and 'New' building.The old building holds classes especially for the first year students, where teachers give specialized attention to them.The recent 'new' building has an organized infrastructure, where the lectures and practicals for the remaining six semesters are carried out.Sports activities are carried out in two grounds situated nearby , which are a part of the campus.A huge seminar hall locate on the fourth floor,is used for conducting guest seminars, conferences and other cultural activities.The mechanical workshop in the ground floor is well equipped with the latest machines.The institute also possesses an efficient security force, offering 24 hour service. The restaurants Sai Ganesh (located opposite the campus) and Khana Khazana (near the campus) are popular with students.The college also has an in-house stationary shop providing books for reference.

Library

One of the important places where the entire faculty and students like to hang out in their free time is the library which occupies the entire half of the fifth floor of the new building. The library stocks all the relevant books,guides,project manuals as well as the latest technical magazines,etc. It also hold a 9 to 5 computer lab, where students can access all the technical sites such as the IEEE.The reading hall is made up of small tiny cubicles clubbed together which facilitates an undisturbed reading environment.

R & D

The R&D lab was started in 2004.The cell is constantly active and undertakes projects from the industry and conducts research on the same by involving the students and faculty.Recently,the cell has succeeded in receiving a sponsored and collaborative research project in association with Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd.

Events

The institute has successfully carried out many cultural and technical events over the past years.The institute organizes varied knids of Robotics competitions,Technical Paper Presentations, Technical seminars,Workshops,Intelligence Quizzes, etc.Initially,5 Technical Festivals were held every year till 2007--Surge(ELEC),Ethos(COMP),Zigma(ELEX),Mechtrix(MECH)and Threshold(EXTC).The technical festivals were then merged together to form 'Tech-Zephyr',named derived from 'Zephyr' - the college's cultural festival.The cultural festival- 'ZEPHYR' is held during the summer term, which attracts students from engineering colleges all over Navi Mumbai to participate.The most notable events are the 'War of Bands','Dance competitions','Dramatics','Fashion Shows','Singing competitions',etc. [http://www.thezephyr.in/] Unlike most other engineering colleges, LT holds a 'parents teachers meet' after the mid-term exams,in order to review and better a student's performance.
