United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 9.4square mile s (24.3km² ), of which, 9.4 square miles (24.2 km²) of it is land and 0.11% is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,799 people, 690 households, and 565 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 298.9 people per square mile (115.5/km²). There were 810 housing units at an average density of 86.5/sq mi (33.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 2.82% White, 0.04% Black or African American, 96.32% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.18% from other races, and 0.43% from two or more races. 3.25% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 690 households out of which 42.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 25.9% were married couples living together, 43.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.0% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.99 and the average family size was 4.33.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 41.9% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 15.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 23 years. For every 100 females there were 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $20,610, and the median income for a family was $20,294. Males had a median income of $25,278 versus $22,396 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $6,283. About 41.9% of families and 46.0% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 50.8% of those under age 18 and 40.6% of those age 65 or over.References
