The Utrecht University of Applied Sciences ("Hogeschool Utrecht", HU) is a Vocational University. It is one of the higher education institutions located in the city of Utrecht and one of the largest educational institutions in the Netherlands. The institution shares its main campus, the Uithof, with the largest university of the Netherlands, the Utrecht University. It also has buildings in Amersfoort, 25 km from Utrecht.
The HU has around 30,000 students enrolled. It offers about 70 different degree courses (Bachelor and Master level) in a wide range of subjects: Communication and Journalism, Economics and Management, Science and Technology, Health care, Education and Social Professions.
In the Netherlands a vocational university is called Hogeschool (cf German Hochschule). The title "Universiteit" (Dutch for university) is legally limited to institutions that have been officially acredited with that title. However, it is allowed to use the English designation "University".
