fighting game released in arcades by Kaneko in 1994. It uses digitized images of real actors within the game. It's clearly inspried by Mortal Kombat when it comes to both presentation and violence.Blood Warrior is also the successor to Kaneko's 1992 release "
Shogun Warriors ".Gameplay
Blood Warrior's gameplay is quite similar to many of the 2D fighting games of the same era. However, Kaneko seem to have taken much of their inspiration from Midway's "Mortal Kombat" in terms of over the top gore and violence.
There are 9 selectable characters to choose from, ranging from ninjas, Buddha like entity, and even a turtle like creature. Each character has their own weapons and special attacks. After winning 2 rounds, the winning player can perform a fatality much like Mortal Kombat. Most of which tend to be over the top and humorous as opposed to disturbing. The fatalities are considerably easier to perform compared to Mortal Kombat as they only require a tap of any button.
A demonstration video of all the fatalities can be seen here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgm2bIZNKdM]
Reception
"Blood Warrior" is an obscure title due it not not being released outside of Asia, but it has become more recognized since being emulated with the
MAME . The game is best known for being a "Mortal Kombat" clone with over the top and comical violence. The Blood Warrior Arcade machine is also very rare. The Killer List Of Video Games (KLOV) currently ranks the rarity as 2 out of 100 (100 being common, 1 being scarce). Finding an original dedicated cabinet for this game is difficult.
