Sigma-2 receptor

Sigma-2 receptor

The sigma-2 receptor is a sigma receptor which preferentially binds to siramesine [cite journal |author=Skuza G, Rogóz Z |title=The synergistic effect of selective sigma receptor agonists and uncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonists in the forced swim test in rats |journal=J. Physiol. Pharmacol. |volume=57 |issue=2 |pages=217–29 |year=2006 |pmid=16845227 |doi=] and PB28. [cite journal |author=Cassano G, Gasparre G, Contino M, "et al" |title=The sigma-2 receptor agonist PB28 inhibits calcium release from the endoplasmic reticulum of SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cells |journal=Cell Calcium |volume=40 |issue=1 |pages=23–8 |year=2006 |pmid=16687172 |doi=10.1016/j.ceca.2006.03.004]

Unlike sigma-1 receptor, it has not yet been cloned.

Activation of the receptor can cause apoptosis. [cite web |url=http://neuroscience.brown.edu/bowen.html |title=Wayne D. Bowen - MPPB Faculty :: Brown University |accessdate=2008-01-07 |format= |work=]
