Universitat (Barcelona Metro)

Universitat (Barcelona Metro)

Universitat is the name of a station in the Barcelona Metro network, named after Plaça Universitat, in the central Eixample district, the location of the main campus of Universitat de Barcelona, built in the neo-gothic style. It's served by L1 and L2.

The station was opened in 1926 as part of the original section of "Ferrocarril Metropolità Transversal" between Bordeta and Catalunya, and has been one of Barcelona's busiest metro stations ever since. The L2 platforms were added in the early 1990s and were inaugurated in 1995. It can be accessed from Ronda Universitat, Ronda de Sant Antoni, Plaça Universitat and Carrer de Pelai. Railtracks belonging to a RENFE line also cross the station, which forced architects to redesign some of its parts.
