"Anna" is a 1951 Italian classic melodrama film directed by Alberto Lattuada and starring by the same trio as Bitter Rice: Silvana Mangano as Anna, the sinner that became a nun; Raf Vallone as Andrea, the rich man that loves her; and Vittorio Gassman as Vittorio, the wicked waiter that spoilt Anna.

Silvana Mangano's real sister, Patrizia Mangano, acts as Anna's sister on the film. Sophia Loren has got a small uncredited rol as a nightclub assistant. Future film directors Franco Brusati and Dino Risi cowrote the script.

Plot

A man (Raf Vallone) suffers a car accident. He's taken to the hospital, where Sister Anna (Silvana Mangano) takes care of him. The man is the reason Anna became Sister Anna. She remembers the days she was a sinner singer in a night club.

Reception

One of the greatest success of the Cinema of Italy. The "Bayon" song became a classic in Italy and Spain. Nanni Moretti made a tribute in Dear Diary, where the "Bayon" musical number is shown on a tv.
