According to the
U.S. Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 0.8square mile s (2.1km² ), of which, 0.8 square miles (2.0 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (6.17%) is water. Incorporated in1832 , it has lost a large area of land to floods and later the construction ofPickwick Dam .Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 208 people, 94 households, and 67 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 273.1 people per square mile (105.7/km²). There were 145 housing units at an average density of 190.4/sq mi (73.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.12% White, 1.44% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 94 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.60.
In the town the population was spread out with 17.3% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $25,536, and the median income for a family was $31,000. Males had a median income of $33,750 versus $18,750 for females. The
per capita income for the town was $15,167.
