Vieux-Longueuil is a borough in the city of Longueuil. From 2002 to 2006, Vieux-Longueuil borough stood for what used to be the city of Longueuil from 1969 to 2002. The pre-2002 city of Longueuil was composed of 3 towns merged together in the 1960s: Ville Jacques-Cartier, Montreal South and Longueuil.

Since 2006, the Vieux-Longueuil borough refers to the combination of the pre-2002 city of Longueuil with Lemoyne. Lemoyne joined the Vieux-Longueuil borough when Saint-Lambert left the city of Longueuil in 2006. Despite this, the borough continues to be known simply as Vieux-Longueuil without the inclusion of LeMoyne in the name.

Some anglophone locals refer to the the pre-2002 city of Longueuil as "Longueuil proper" to distinguish it from a neighborhood within it also known as "Vieux-Longueuil". Most people (aside from government officials and some media resources) associate the name Vieux-Longueuil with this neighbourhood rather than the borough. Also, the overall population generally use the name Longueuil in reference to the territory of the pre-2002 city rather than the new mega-city.

Only Longueuil proper (or the pre-2002 city) uses "Longueuil" on mailing addresses.
