Hilperton is one of the larger villages of the county of Wiltshire, England, and is separated by only a few fields from the town of Trowbridge. Hilperton village centre is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Trowbridge town centre.

There are two main parts of the village:

* The old quarter, including the church, Hill Street, and the pub.
* A large area of new housing constructed from 1997, mostly referred to as "Paxcroft Mead", a district often mistaken as a suburb of Trowbridge.

Local government

Hilperton is an ancient civil parish and forms part of the West Wiltshire district ward of Avonside and the county of Wiltshire. Aspects of local government are dealt with at all three levels, parish, district and county.

Church

The parish church of St. Michael and All Angels dates from the Middle Ages, but was "restored" in the 19th century by Thomas Henry Wyatt.

Local Amenities

The Paxcroft Mead development boasts numerous green recreational spaces as well as two fast food outlets, a card shop, a branch of Budgens supermarket a saloon, a shoe shop, a pharmacy and a carpinters. The post office and general stores in the old quarter of the village was closed in 2004.

The village hall, located on Whaddon Lane, is the social hub of the older part of Hilperton, and the adjoining football pitch plays home to Hilperton United FC. The venue is used for the annual Hilperton village fete, which usually falls on the 2nd Saturday of June.

Local towns & villages

Hilperton is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) to the north of central Trowbridge, 4 miles (6.5 km) southeast of Bradford on Avon, 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Melksham and 11 miles (17 km) southeast of the city of Bath. The smaller villages of Staverton and Semington are both within 2 miles (3 km) of Hilperton.
